Founded by investor Peter Hermann in 1994, Heritage Partners grew to nearly $1.5 billion under management. The private equity firm typically focused on family-owned business and invested in them through its trademarked Private IPO structure. This structure allowed owners of successful middle-market companies to obtain liquidity while still maintaining a large equity investment and ongoing control of their business.
Among Heritage Partners’ numerous portfolio companies were AmerTac Holdings, Cecilware Corporation, Castle Rock Industries, WA Butler Co., DIAM International, and Bennett Footwear Group. The firm had sold off most of its investment holdings by 2009, with partners leaving to create new private equity groups (e.g. Lineage Capital) utilizing similarly structured investment models.
