Executive Summary

New executive search for VP Manufacturing Operations. Newly created role; first senior-level executive position for which company is recruiting outside its ranks. Rapid growth (Inc. Magazine, 2018 fastest growing companies list) creates new opportunities, demands world-class talent.

Position reports to the CEO of this closely-held, private manufacturer. There are three critical aspects to the position:

  1. Run day-to-day manufacturing operations extremely well. Provide leadership, strategy and tactics to achieve world-class capability and capacity in the company’s manufacturing and production support functions.
  2. Creatively drive improvement and innovation in current state operations. Provide direction and change management leadership, supporting Lean strategy across all functions, to deliver and sustain best-in-class safety, production, quality, productivity and cost-effective performance.
  3. Innovatively envision, plan and execute for people, infrastructure, systems, processes to support growth/scale to $100 to $150 mm revenue. Challenge the status quo, think different, experiment, make great things happen – own it.

Position Overview

The VP Manufacturing Operations is responsible for all aspects of the company’s production operations including safety, production, quality, materials and inventory. Our new VP will partner closely with the CEO to help run and grow this business to $150 million+ world-wide revenue. Would this be attractive to you?

What You Bring to the Table

The VP Operations we seek is a hands-on change agent accustomed to leading the organization to do the hard work of those day-today activities that drive desired results, a person who gets that there are no quick fixes or short-cuts to sustainable, long-term success.

Our ideal candidate will demonstrate meaningful, recognizable achievement; a stable, increasingly responsible career history (ideally 10-15 years total); and sustained performance delivered over time in ever more challenging, complex discrete manufacturing environments.

Our VP Manufacturing Operations must also exhibit a highly collaborative style that fosters and supports an open and transparent culture built on accountability, respect for people, and the highest standards of personal integrity and ethical performance.

Finally, our VP Manufacturing Operations will have demonstrated ability to successfully support the recruitment and development of people, as well as the planning and creation of infrastructure, systems and processes, to build and sustain a $100 million to $150+ million manufacturing company.

Specific Experience Requirements – Resume Must Showcase

• Lean / operational excellence leadership
• High-volume assembly manufacturing
• Manufacturing process development
• Leadership driving rapid growth /scaling of manufacturing operations
• Leadership success in private or family-owned company environment
• Blend of small (under $50 mm revenue) and larger company leadership experience; majority of career in $50 mm to $250 mm revenue operation
• Detailed meaningful leadership accomplishments, with the metrics to back them up – laundry list of generic management responsibilities insufficient
